Microsoft’s Patch Tuesday update KB 3114409 has caused chaos for the Outlook users. The patch was actually released to stop Outlook from starting in Safe Mode, but it appears something didn’t go the right way.
Microsoft has decided to withdraw the update as Many Outlook 2010 customers reported that installing KB 3114409 forces Outlook to start in safe mode.
Symptoms you may encounter are;
- Outlook 2010 is loaded with the default settings.
- Reading Pane is turned off.
- Modified settings aren’t being retained upon restarting Outlook.
- Add-ins are disabled.
- The Quick Access Toolbar and Ribbon have been reset and can’t be customized.
- Instant Search doesn’t work.
Microsoft has withdrawn the yesterday released Windows Update KB3114409 because it causes Outlook to start in Safe Mode. This loads the email client without customizations and plugins. Fortunately it can be easily fixed.
This can be done this way: Go to your Control Panel. Go to ‘Programs and Features’ and left click ‘View installed updates’. Once you’ve found the appropriate update, click ‘Uninstall’.
